Medicalizing Queerness: Medicine as an Institution of Social Control

This session outlines western medicine as an institution that both shaped and was shaped by the society in which is existed, defining and enforcing norms that marginalized those who did not conform to cisnormative and heteronormative standards. After a discussion of the history of medicine's approach to queer/trans identities we will break into groups to discuss several cases to deepen our understanding of this topic.
